In one sentence

Whereabuds listens for the Bluetooth signal of your lost earbuds, headphones, ring or watch, and tells you when you’re getting warmer.

Short description

Lost an earbud? Whereabuds is a free iPhone app that listens for its faint Bluetooth signal and shows how close you are in one word, from Far to Right here. Turn once in each room and it tells you which room to search. It works with any brand, and it’s honest about when an earbud can’t be heard.

Longer description

Wireless earbuds are easy to lose and hard to find. Brand finders can ring them only while they’re charged and connected, and a map only shows where they were last connected. Whereabuds fills the gap for the last few metres.

Hold your earbuds next to your iPhone once to add them. When they go missing, walk slowly: one word shows how close you are (Far, Nearby, Close, Very close, Right here), the signal bars fill, and ticks and haptics speed up as you close in. Because walls weaken Bluetooth, Whereabuds can compare rooms: turn once in each and it picks the strongest. If your headphones reconnect, it plays a loud sound through them; for AirPods it opens Apple’s Find My.

It works with earbuds and headphones from any brand, plus smart rings, watches, pencils, speakers and hearing aids that use Bluetooth Low Energy. There’s no account, and Bluetooth readings and places stay on the iPhone. Every feature is free.
