How to find lost Sony, Bose, JBL or Beats earbuds
Every brand does finding a little differently, and features vary by model. Start with your brand’s own tools below, then use the Bluetooth signal when they can’t help.
Quick answer
- Beats on iPhone: Apple’s Find My, like AirPods.
- Sony, JBL and other Fast Pair earbuds on Android: Google’s Find Hub.
- Bose and JBL: look for Find My Buds in the brand’s app.
- Nothing works, or you’re on iPhone? Search room by room with the Bluetooth signal.
Sony
- Android: many Sony earbuds and headphones work with Google Fast Pair, which puts them in Google’s Find Hub app with their last known location. Sony notes that you may need to pair them through Fast Pair, not just the Sony app, for this to work, and that Play Sound isn’t supported on every model.
- iPhone: Find Hub isn’t available. Open the Sony | Sound Connect app and check what it offers for your model; then search by signal (below).
Bose
- On supported earbuds, the Bose app has Find My Buds, which remembers where the earbuds were when they last disconnected from your phone and shows it on a map.
- It only knows what it saw while switched on, so check the app’s settings now if you still have one earbud.
JBL
- Many JBL true wireless earbuds have Find My Buds in the JBL Headphones app: it can make them beep and shows their last location. Over-ear models often don’t have it.
- On Android, Fast Pair models can also appear in Google’s Find Hub.
- Don’t forget the earbuds in Bluetooth settings or reset them while you’re still looking: that can erase the last location.
Beats
- iPhone: most recent Beats appear in Apple’s Find My app, where you can play a sound and see their last location. The steps are the same as in our AirPods guide.
- Android: check the Beats app, and Google’s Find Hub for supported models.
When the brand app can’t help: search by signal
Brand finders can usually ring earbuds only while they’re charged and connected, and a map only shows the last place they were connected. If your earbuds are out of the case and still have charge, they’re usually still sending a faint Bluetooth signal, whatever the brand. Walk slowly and compare rooms: walls weaken Bluetooth, so the room with the strongest signal is usually the right one.
Whereabuds does this on iPhone for any brand: Sony, Bose, JBL, Beats, Jabra, Nothing and more. One word tells you how close you are, from Far to Right here, and it says plainly when an earbud can’t be heard. If your headphones reconnect, it plays a loud sound through them. Free, no account.
Coming soon to the App StoreOne limit applies to every app: earbuds in a closed case, with a flat battery, or that only use classic Bluetooth can’t be heard. For those, go to the last known location and search the usual places: sofa cushions, inside the duvet cover, coat pockets, the laundry basket and car seat gaps.
Common questions
Can I find Sony earbuds with an iPhone?
Google Find Hub, which many Sony models support, is Android only. On iPhone, check the Sony | Sound Connect app for your model, then search room by room with a Bluetooth signal finder while the earbuds are out of the case and charged.
Why doesn’t my brand’s Find feature work?
Most brand finders can only ring earbuds that are charged and connected, and many only remember a location if the feature was switched on before the earbuds were lost.
